So freakin cold

New Year, same me!

Ok, I guess that's not exactly accurate. I’ll start this off with a light apology of just not posting last week. It wasn't even like I didn't have anything to say. I just kinda didn't carve out the time to sit down and write.

That being said, I'll start now and work my way back. It's the first day of classes at Loyola, which honestly surprised they didn't cancel. Because A. It is as cold as they say it is (-28 by the lake) and B. So many travel plans got messed up that a bunch of people aren’t here. But no, in true rambler fashion, if you can go to class you should. I have a similar schedule as last semester so I am planning to continue posting on Tuesdays. I will be in an air of annoyance as one of my classes moved a full 2 hours earlier. So I might end up changing to posting on Wednesday when I have a more open block.

I also got all my syllabi released yesterday so I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to drop 200$ on textbooks, and suggested that 80$-200$ headphones were a requirement for class, like yeah I get you were on NPR, 80$ as the cheapest option is absurd. In other absurd cost-related items, the lovely (sense the sarcasm) honors program was kind enough to force us to spend 70$ and our Saturday night going to the Opera. But that's not for a few weeks so get excited for the update on that.

As for non-school-related things, my trip to Germany as a whole was great. Endlessly grateful to Elena and her family for being such great hosts. I saw so many things and so many cool people. The flight back was also pretty good, I forgot how much I love ranch. Jets Ranch might be the closest thing we have to the nectar of the gods.

My train back to Chicago was also uneventful and I’ll also extend a public thank-you to my friend Sarah and her Mom for picking me up from Union Station, as well as the Culvers. Delish.

Well, unfortunately, that's most of what I have to write about. As my final parting note, I would like to dedicate this post to bestie Bridget. She's not dead, she just left Loyola. Miss ya girl!

Thanks for being here,

Gretchen

One thing I'm constantly amazed by is Loyola's air of...indifference...about things? Like, they just moved your class to a different time and are like, "if you don't like it, feel free to drop?" I mean, respect, but also...how do you just get to DO that? And I'm asking as a person who works in this field! And for readers who aren't on the Loyola parent page: there are HUGE numbers of students who literally can't get back to Chicago. Trains cancelled, flights postponed: baller that the university is just like "join us when you can!" I mean, respect, but also...cold! Ever grateful to Sarah and her selfless mom who, no doubt, wanted to spend her Sunday afternoon driving around Chicago…
