I think I should probably start getting into Succession. As I swear to God I take I’m three weeks into a business course (Excel for beginners), which means that I am confident that I will understand 100% of the lingo they use without looking anything up.

As for the more concrete things happening that are not “Gretchen’s Hot Takes™” I am writing this from the desktop at the Lewis Library, Loyola’s downtown library. I spend my Tuesday and Thursday mornings down here after questioning my life’s choices. I do this as my Tuesdays and Thursdays start with me waking up, (6:45 AM), getting breakfast (7:00-7:20), and then getting on a bus and waiting in an hour of Lake Shore Drive traffic to get to my class 10 minutes before it starts (8:30). I round out the 3 hours following the conclusion of that class putzing around in Excel, watching about 30 minutes of TikTok’s, writing these posts before I get back on either the Red Line of the shuttle to b back in my dorm around noon. I guess you can say I officially live in the #academicgrindset.

I will say that on the shuttle ride back I get to pass by the prettiest building I have ever seen. The address is 1027 W Bryn Mawr Ave, and although its location in proximity to the highway isn't great the three stories of bay windows, green stained glass hallways, and turrets. Dare I say the google maps photo of it doesn't do it much justice as the current residents have filled the sunrooms with plants, giving it a very cozy feel even if just viewing from the outside.

As for non-academic or architecture updates, I have/had contracted a terrible sickness known colloquially as “Frat Flu” Despite the lack of frat houses on campus, I spent my weekend doing errands and method acting a version of myself that did not feel like I got hit by a truck of body aches and nausea. But do not fret dear readers, I made a harrowing journey (2 miles), on my noble steed (the CTA red line), to the Jewel-Osco to procure to elixir of life (Vernors). As I downed the sweet can of victory I could feel the sickness lift and now am sitting pretty with just a stuffy nose and one of those coughs that sound like a broken squeaky toy.

But that’s that. I went out on a floor outing led by my RA and bought two hats and stopped by my favorite yarn store in Lincon Park to pretend that I had casual cash to drop on the alpaca blend yarn that I bought a sweater worth of. The weather has been cooling which has been nice, I have some fun stuff coming up, (looking forward to coffee in Andersonville this Sunday), as well as the fall coming swiftly around the corner.

So for this week that’s really all I have to report, I will “see” you all next week.

Catch ya on the flip.

-Gretchen

You’re right, google maps doesn’t do that building justice, nor does the xfinity truck sitting in front of it. And how did you know some of us would google the address? Feel better soon!! Miss you!
